Sushma – A Case Of Mandibular Prognanthism

Sushma was born with excessive growth of the lower jaw, also known as mandibular prognathism. She came to St. John’s Medical College and Hospital for treatment at the age of 19 years.

Sushma’s teeth were also misaligned. Treatment thus included orthodontics.

Orthodontic treatment was provided prior to the surgery. It included expansion of the arches in order to increase their width.

The patient’s teeth were also misaligned. Braces were used to re-align the teeth.

Patient mid-treatment

Following this, the patient underwent surgery to push the lower jaw back. The surgery performed was Obwegeser’s sagittal split osteotomy. It was done by Dr. Vijay Joseph at the St. John’s Medical College and Hospital.
